Silicon Metal
Description
Silicon metal, also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon, is a product made by smelting quartz and coke in an electric furnace and reducing carbon to silicon dioxide. the content of silicon is about 98%. After melting and recrystallization, the metal silicon with 99.7 ~ 99.8% purity is obtained by removing impurities with acid. Its main purpose is to be used as an additive for non-Fe-based alloys.
The classification of metallic silicon is usually classified according to the contents of iron, aluminum and calcium in silicon. according to the contents of Fe, Al and Ca in metallic silicon, the metallic silicon can be divided into different grades, such as 553,441,411,421,3303, 3305, 2202, 2502, 1501, 1101, and so on.
Metal silicon is composed mainly of silicon, so it has similar properties to silicon. there are two kinds of isomorphism in silicon: amorphous silicon and crystalline silicon. amorphous silicon is a gray-black powder and is actually a microcrystal. crystal silicon has the crystal structure and semiconductor property of diamond, melting point 1410 ℃, boiling point 2355 ℃, Morse hardness 7, and brittleness. amorphous silicon is chemically active and can burn violently in oxygen. It reacts with halogen, nitrogen, carbon and other nonmetallic metals at high temperature. It also acts with magnesium, calcium, iron and other metals to form silicides. Amorphous silicon is insoluble in almost all inorganic and organic acids, including hydrofluoric acid, but soluble in a mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Concentrated sodium hydroxide solution can dissolve amorphous silicon and release hydrogen. crystal silicon is not active, even at high temperature it does not combine with oxygen, it is insoluble in any inorganic acid and organic acid, but it can be dissolved in mixed acid of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid and concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.
